Absorb transcript (redacted)

Redacted Cursor chat from 18 Aug 2026. Local account names, absolute home paths, private agent rules, and machine-specific tooling were removed. What remains is the absorb command and its GNU Stow output.

The public ~/.dotfiles repo is retired. Everything lives in ~/.dotfiles-private.

Invoke this skill only when asked. Run:

  ~/.dotfiles-private/.claude/skills/absorb-public-dotfiles/absorb-public-dotfiles.sh

No-op when the public clone is already gone. Do not hook this into gsync, gpr,
git hooks, fish startup, or make install.

The script:
1. No-op unless ~/.dotfiles is the retired public clone (msharran/.dotfiles).
2. Abort before unstow if make/stow are missing, or if a private make dryrun
   against a temporary empty $HOME fails.
3. Unstow public home links (make -C ~/.dotfiles clean plus a fallback for
   directory-level sbin / .config public symlinks). Leftover ~/sbin links for
   archived tools are removed and not re-stowed.
4. make -C ~/.dotfiles-private stow-link setup-terminfo.
5. mv ~/.dotfiles /tmp/dotfiles-public-... unless that clone has uncommitted
   changes (unstow still happens; the move is skipped).
